This page explains what DetectiveNights collects, why, and for how long, in plain language.
What we collect
The display name you pick when you join a room. If you choose to create a free account, an email address (used only to send you a one-time login code). Gameplay data tied to a room: questions, guesses, hints, and chat messages. If you have an account, private lifetime stats (games played, rounds solved, rounds narrated, total score). These stats are never shown on a public leaderboard.
Why we collect it
Your name is shown to other players in your room so the game works. Rate limits that prevent spam and abuse are tied to your player or account, not your IP address. An account is entirely optional and only exists so your stats and content survive across devices.
How long we keep it
A room and everything in it (players, questions, guesses, hints, chat) is automatically deleted about 24 hours after it's created. Account data (email, stats) is kept until you delete your account. Note that there is currently no self-service way to delete an account; contact us if you want yours removed.
Cookies
We use two cookies, both strictly necessary for the app to work: one that keeps you signed in (including anonymous play), and one that remembers your language choice. Neither requires consent under GDPR, and we don't set any advertising or analytics cookies.
Third parties
We don't use any advertising or analytics trackers. Your data is stored and processed by Supabase (our database, authentication, and realtime provider) and, for login-code emails, Resend (our email delivery provider). Both are used strictly to run the app, never for advertising or analytics. We use Sentry for error monitoring: when something crashes, diagnostic information such as a stack trace and the page URL is sent to Sentry so we can fix it. Sentry also receives lightweight performance data (page load timing) for a random sample of sessions, for the same purpose.
